The proper role of both men and women, in her view, is to find the work for which they are suited. One of the first women to graduate from Oxford, Dorothy Sayers pursued her goals whether or not what she wanted to do was ordinarily understood to be 'feminine. She is perhaps best known for her mysteries, a series of novels and short stories, set between the First and Second World Wars, which feature Lord Peter Wimsey, an English aristocrat and amateur sleuth. We are to be true not so much to our sex as to our humanity. But, as Sayers points out, in countless ways the world is still structured as if they weren’t. Dorothy Leigh Sayers was an English crime writer, poet, playwright, essayist, translator and Christian humanist she was also a student of classical and modern languages.
